I just finished the book by Amy Cuddy called Presence.
It reminded me of her TED talk video that I watched years ago which I have attached to this post (https://lnkd.in/gGqsPKcE). I remembered how watching the video changed my mental model completely about how our body language can regulate potent chemicals within our body (increase testosterone and reduce cortisol) that will boost our perceived personal power and presence.
Amy, drawing from years of rigorous research, posits that a body language power pose can induce a change in our mental model. The emerging mental model then reinforces the body language, and eventually, the circulated reinforcement between body language and the mental model changes our identity. In his word of wisdom, Amy said, “Fake it until you become …”
This video is one of the most fascinating research that details the intertwining relationship between our body and mind that I have ever come across. I hope my sharing can inspire you to use Amy’s recommended power pose to boost your presence and self-confidence in everything that you do, especially going into important meetings, and to safeguard your well-being.
Habit 4: Consider how our mental model affects our reality and our future. Now, add body language and the circular nature of reinforcing the virtuous cycle between power poses and the mental model.
Enjoy!
