A tree that grown for perhaps more than a thousand years behind the backyard of the house of a 94 years old Balaton Group member, Dr Ulrich Loening.
Dr Ulric is an inspiring individual. At his age, he is not only incredibly active mentally but also physically. He exhibited all the great intellect and kindness of humanity in its fullest and purest form.
And I can’t help but wish to be able to live till his age and yet be so active and involved.
Being with him an afternoon to share and discuss the challenges of achieving sustainability in the food systems and the topic on human ecology has been a humbling, enormously nourishing and wonderful learning experience.
This has been a real gem of being a member of the Balaton Group. We connect immediately even though this is the first time I met him, respect our differences and listen and learn from each other irregardless of our age or background.
In between us, the range of our age is more than 50 years ago. No generation gap whatsoever. 😛 United all around a common vision to act on the world’s most challenging sustainability problems through the lens of systems thinking.
