I have always been enormously inspired by Rumi and his poem.
I don’t know why. It seems that Rumi always have a way to speak a truth that is so profound and simple. When I read them, there is an unexplainable magical feeling and deep insights that get evoked within me about life and my intertwining relationship with the Divinity that steers mine.
I started becoming really curious about Rumi and I did a google search on him and read his Wiki page that poped up on my screen. Lord behold, Rumi and I was bornt on the same day on 30 Sept. We were 766 years apart.
Is this Divinity at work?
Maybe that is the reason why I felt so connected to his words despite the years apart.
Today, I came across Rumi’s quote that reverberated my soul.
I read it multiple times and everytime I did that something invaluable will pop into my mind and I can’t help but want to share this in this post.
I wish and hope it will nourish your being like it has to mine.
Be a lamp, or a lifeboat or a ladder. Help someone’s soul heal.
Walk out of your house like a shepherd. ~ Rumi
Within three simple sentences, Rumi’s espoused his values on the altrustism of helping people to heal at the ‘soul’ level.
It expressed the unrelentless pursuit of one’s skills and knowledge to be a competent “lamp, or lifeboat or ladder’ in service of people when they should need you.
It declared the intention of nurturing one’s compassion and willingness to connect deeply with people so that you can trust to help them to heal their soul’s suffering. That someone/people include ourselves.
It highlighted the indispensable need to possess the courage to walk out into this unmerciless, judgmental, and cruel world despite the enormous fears and uncertainty and be like a Shepherd. It is as if Rumi is telling us to stare right into the heart of fear and do it anyway.
Isn’t that the traits, attitudes, and belief of what a coach is supposed to be?
Three simple sentences… yet capture so much essences of my Being as a coach.
I longed for a day that I can live up to Rumi’s words completely.
I longed for a day that my courage to be vulnerable, my willingness to serve and help people and most importantly my actions can also inspire people. Just like Rumi to be a lamp, or a lifeboat or a ladder to help someone’s soul heal.
Wouldn’t that makes our living and the world around us wonderful? I believe so.
What do you think?
